MADRID, OCT. 24. Marat Safin took the title at the Madrid Masters with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Argentina's David Nalbandian on Sunday.
In the semifinals on Saturday, Safin had defeated Andre Agassi 6-3, 7-6(4).
Australia's Alicia Molik upset favourite Maria Sharapova 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the final of the Swisscom Challenge in Zurich on Sunday.
Olympic bronze medallist Molik ended the Wimbledon champion's 12-match winning streak, and dashed the 17-year-old Russian's attempt to take three successive titles.
