Ease traffic congestion

Facilities at university

Sir, — Though the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the University of Mysore with five stars, the facility offered by the university to students raises doubts on what grounds the status is granted to educational institutions. The students are facing hardship because they are unable to use the library after 7.40 p.m. Though the library has a diesel generator, the authorities concerned do not use it during power cuts. It is time that the authorities concerned set right these anomalies.

Fare hike unfair

Sir, — The bus fares were increased recently owing to the rising prices of petroleum products in the international market. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has increased its fares disproportionately. The minimum fare is Rs. 2, and when the stage is crossed, it is Rs. 4. The charges are unfair if the distance is short. In addition, the number and frequency of black/yellow board buses have been reduced in the Bangalore city limits, while those of red board buses have been increased. The charges for monthly passes have also been increased. For black board buses, it is Rs. 280 and for red board buses Rs. 405. The black board buses are always crowded. It will be only fair if the BMTC issues common passes for, say, Rs. 340. This will help the BMTC and the commuters.

Develop localities

Sir, — Civic authorities have turned a blind eye to 11th and 12th Main roads of ISRO Layout so far as development is concerned. These two low-lying areas are in close proximity to Bikashipura.

Asphalted 12 years ago, these main roads are in bad shape. People find it difficult to use these roads whenever it rains. A few vacant sites with stagnant water adjacent to the storm water drain of 12th Main have become a breeding place for mosquitoes. . It would be better if the authorities concerned replaced the stone slabs with concrete ones and built a retaining wall across the road to prevent flooding.

Bad roads

Sir, — Roads leading to Jayanagar and Banashankari from J.P. Nagar, 7th Phase, via Puttenahalli and Beereshwaranagar, are in poor condition. The authorities concerned have ignored the pleas and protests by the people in the past one-and-a-half years for good roads.

If the roads are developed, it will help residents of Puttenahalli, RBI Layout, Gauravnagar, Kothanur, Beereshwaranagar, Eshwari Layout, and many new layouts and colonies near J.P. Nagar, 7th Phase.

N.R. Kannan,

J.P. Nagar
