KANNUR, OCT. 24. The Malabar Cancer Care Society (MCCS) is embarking on a telemedicine project with the objective of providing cancer detection and treatment facilities of the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Thiruvananthapuram, to patients in the north Malabar region. The telemedicine project being launched in cooperation of the RCC, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Thiruvananthapuram, Indian Space and Research Organisation and the Central Information Technology Department would ensure that patients in the region get facilities for preliminary examination, consultation, detection and treatment by RCC doctors, an MCCS press release said here today. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the project at the MCCS Early Cancer Detection Centre here on October 28. The facilities being set up at the centre would include tele-conferencing and transmission of examination reports and slides to the RCC, the release said. The MCCS will also launch a mobile cervical cancer detection and treatment unit on the occasion. It will be inaugurated by A.P. Abdullakutty, MP. The services of a specialist doctor and technical experts would be available at the unit that would visit rural areas in the region, the release said.
