HYDERABAD, OCT.24. Warangal won the Inter-district sub-junior women's cricket tournament for Merupala Anantharamloo Goud Memorial Cup by virtue of better run-rate against Kurnool in the final interrupted by rain here on Sunday. Batting first, Kurnool scored 137 for eight in 30 overs with B.V.Satyavani (57, 4 x 4) being the top-scorer. In reply, Warangal was 110 for eight in 23.3 overs when rain forced abandonment of any further play. However, by virtue of better run-rate it was declared champion. Special prizes were given to Shalini of Hyderabad (best batswoman), Shilpa of Chittoor (best bowler), B.V.Satyavani of Kurnool (player of the tournament) and Sowmya Somanchi of Ranga Reddy (best upcoming player). Ms Sita Kiran, Principal of DAV Public School, gave away the prizes.

The State team for the Sub-junior Nationals, to be held in Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) from November 4, was also announced at the end of the event.
The team: M.Shalini (capt), Shwetha (vice-capt), Mamitha, Sowmya, Ananya, Jhansi, Anusha, Ramya, Satyavani, Radhika, Mutyalamma, Monica Sai, Sinduja, Nagamani and Shilpa. Coach: Harinath (Krishna District).
All the selected players are to report to the coach on October 27 at Olympic Bhavan by 7.00 a.m.
