Balaji and Lakshmi emerge winners

KOZHIKODE, OCT. 24. C.J. Balaji and Lakshmi Vijayan, both of Thiruvananthpuram, emerged as the men's and women's singles champions in the all-Kerala ranking table tennis tournament at the V.K. Krishna Menon Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

The results:

Men: Final: C.J. Balaji (Tvm) bt M.R. Rajeev (Tsr) 11-6, 6-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-7. Semifinals: Balaji bt P. Adarsh (Tvm) 10-12, 11-1, 10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 11-6; Rajeev bt S. Sreeraj (Tvm) 13-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-2, 11-5.

Junior boys: Final: Mathew N. Mathew (Kzde) bt Abhinav Ranjith (Kzde) 11-7, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5. Semifinals: Mathew bt Shyam Narayan (Alp) 4-11, 2-11, 11-7, 13-11, 14-12, 9-11, 11-6; Abhinav bt Angelo Porathur (Tsr) 11-4, 8-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6.

Sub-junior boys: Final: Angelo Porathur (Tsr) bt Anwin Jose (Wyd) 9-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-5, 11-9, 11-8. Semifinals: Angelo bt S. Sundar (Alp) 11-7, 11-9, 12-14, 11-6; Anwin bt S. Arjun (Tvm) 11-0, 13-11, 12-10.

Women: Final: Lakshmi Vijayan (Tvm) bt Anju K. Thomas (Tvm) 11-6, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8, 6-11, 9-11, 11-8. Semifinals: Lakshmi bt Aparna D. Nair (Tvm) 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-6, 5-11, 17-15; Anju bt M.S. Bindu (Tvm) 11-4, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9.
