Football title for Christ College

THRISSUR, OCT. 24. Christ College (Irinjalakuda) pipped Thrissur district-mate Sree Kerala Varma 4-3 via the tiebreaker and won the men's football title in the seventh Kerala College Games at the Corporation Stadium here on Sunday evening. The battle between the two Calicut University teams was level 1-1 at the end of the regulation period.

St. Xavier's College (Aluva), thriving on State star Simi Jose Kavalakat's neat performance, won its maiden women's basketball title. St Xavier's defeated Government Brennen (Thalassery) 60-49 in the final tonight.

The results: Men: football: final: Christ College, Irinjalakuda, bt Sree Kerala Varma, Thrissur, 4-3 (tiebreaker, full-time 1-1). Third place: MES, Mampad. Semifinals: SKVC bt Mar Athanasius, Kothamangalam, 5-0; Christ College bt MES, Mampad 3-1.

Basketball: Men: semifinals: St. Berchman's, Changanassery, 64 (Monish Wilson 25, Siju Kuriakose 18) bt MCC, Kzd, 59 (Sreekanth 19, Mobin Thomas 18, Rahul Chandran 10).

Women: final: St. Xavier's College, Aluva 60 (Simi Jose Kavalakat 22, Jeena 17, Dhanya 14) bt Govt Brennen, Thalassery 49 (M. Beena 31, Shibimol K. Sunny 11). Third place: Assumption, Changanassery 61 (Leena Mariam 30) bt St. Joseph's, Alappuzha 51 (Sonia Joseph 24, S.S. Anjana 17). Semifinals: St. Xavier's 60 (Simi Jose Kavalakat 28, Jeena 13, Anu Cherian 10) bt Assumption 32 (Nimmy Thomas 18); Govt Brennen 55 (M. Beena 22, I.P. Nithya 11) bt St. Joseph's 54 (S.S. Anjana 25, Sonia Joseph 24).

Cricket: PSMO, Thirurangadi 115 in 19 overs bt Govt Vicoria, Palakkad 107 in 18 overs.
