Cuddapah
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, OCT. 24. The Telugu Desam Party leaders accused the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, of being apathetic to the woes of farmers, whose suicide spree continued unabated in his five-month-rule. Dr. Reddy was lax in implementing his pre-poll promises made to farmers and was downplaying the number of suicides, alleged the TDP district official spokesman, M. Venkataswamy, publicity secretary, S.V. Subba Rao, organising secretary, S. Subhan Basha and office secretary, L. Madhusudan Reddy, at a press conference on Sunday.
`GO of no use'
They alleged that GO 107, which was issued to maintain the MDDL of 854 ft. in Srisailam reservoir, would not serve the interests of Rayalaseema, particularly Cuddapah district. There was little scope for water release to Gandikota reservoir, they alleged and described the promise to divert KC Canal water to Pulivendula as "impractical". Dr. Reddy inaugurated Telugu Ganga project works with fanfare, but the credit for conceiving the project goes to the TDP founder, N.T. Rama Rao, they said. They termed the Chief Minister's criticism of the late Minister, B. Veera Reddy, "unfounded". The TDP leader, Veera Reddy's efforts on Telugu Ganga project was widely known, they said. Ridiculing the Chief Minister's charge that pucca houses were sanctioned only to TDP sympathisers, they demanded an enquiry into the charge.
