WARANGAL, OCT. 24. In an unprecedented incident, the Superintendent of Police, K. Srinivasa Reddy, sealed the room of the Kazipet Sub-Inspector of police after making a surprise visit to the police station on Sunday afternoon. The SI, Praveen, had locked his room and gone away without informing the staff. When the SP visited the station, he found, to his surprise, that the room was locked. He tried to contact the Sub-Inspector over cellular phone, but in vain. The officer had switched off his wireless set. The SP sent a policeman to Mr. Praveen's residence, where his relatives said he had gone away without giving any information to the family. Enraged, Mr. Reddy ordered personnel to seal the SI's room until further notice. When contacted, Mr. Reddy said the officer was moving very slow on a case of a bar owner selling liquor illegally on Ganesh immersion day. The SI had "not bothered implement the directives and was trying to save the culprit by delaying his arrest," he said. The SI was reportedly camping at Hyderabad and was trying to bring political pressure on the SP. He also reportedly contacted local police officials and requested them to save him from disciplinary action for leaving to Hyderabad without notice.
