HYDERABAD, OCT. 24. The next time a young stranger tries to befriend you at a bar in the city, beware! Because he might disappear with your car the moment your attention is distracted. The Gopalapuram police are looking out for Ajay (20) of Sanathnagar, who has been accused of lifting cars after befriending customers at bars and restaurants in city. On October 21, Ajay met a businessman, Hari Prasad Naidu, at Ramakrishna bar near Rathifile bus stop insisting that he knew Mr. Naidu, though the latter said he did not recognise Ajay. After some time, Mr. Naidu went to the toilet only to find on returning that Ajay had disappeared with his car. A diary that Ajay had forgotten on the table became the main clue for the police. "When our men went to Ajay's house, his parents admitted that Ajay had been lifting cars in this manner," the Gopalapuram ACP, Mohd. Tajuddin, said. Inquiries revealed that Ajay was allegedly resorting to car lifting lured by the desire to maintain a lavish lifestyle. "His proficiency in English has been a great asset in convincing others that he is from a well-to-do family," the police said quoting Ajay's friends.
