Letters to the Editor
Sir, A look at the reward package announced by the Tamil Nadu Government for the STF personnel makes one wonder whose money it is anyway. The Tamil Nadu Government raised such a hue and cry over empty coffers when it assumed power. Are the coffers overflowing now?
Suresh Nookala,
* * * Sir, There is an unnecessary controversy over Veerappan's killing. Had he been nabbed alive, his accomplices might have abducted someone for his release; or he could have won an election some time in future. As for the mine of information he could have provided, given the dismal rate of conviction in corruption cases, hardly any concrete action would have been taken against the powerful.
Pradhyumna Rajanikant Kansara,
* * * Sir, Veerappan was a nightmare for many people and a Robin Hood for some. Our social structure needs to be revamped to prevent Veerappans, Phoolan Devis, naxalites and others from challenging the existing order. They are manifestations of social imbalance.
Ashwini Kumar Singh,
* * * Sir, The proposal of STF chief K. Vijay Kumar to undertake a `padayatra' from the Bannari temple in Erode to an Anjaneya temple in Chennai as a thanksgiving gesture to God is unhealthy. Politicians can afford to do such things but civil servants must leave their religion at home.
V. Nagarajan,
