Letters to the Editor
Sir, The editorial "Hindi English Bhai Bhai" (Oct. 14) was an extraneous effort to justify the superiority of English over Hindi. Farsightedness of Jawaharlal Nehru in this particular matter has divided Indian society into two categories; English speaking and non-English speaking. His assurance proved useful only to those who have a tinge of pride on their faces because they possess the knowledge of English and can speak the language. Why cannot south Indians and other non-Hindi speaking people accept and learn Hindi in lieu of English? Both languages are alien to them.
Pankaj Shrivastava,
