TVS Motor Q2 sales at Rs. 752 crores

CHENNAI, OCT. 25. TVS Motor Company recorded a turnover of Rs. 751.52 crores in the second quarter ended September 2004 against Rs. 773.62 crores in the corresponding period last year. The profit before tax stood at Rs. 53.02 crores against Rs. 57.20 crores and the profit after tax at Rs. 34.24 crores against Rs. 36.98 crores.

Total two wheelers sold during the quarter exceeded that of the previous quarter by 16 per cent, an indication of the growth trend expected from TVS Motor in the next two quarters. Sales of motorcycles rose by 16.6 per cent, scooterettes by 17.1 per cent and mopeds by 13.8 per cent.

With the launch of TVS Star, the new entry-level four-stroke motorcycle, TVS Motor was now present in all segments with a four-stroke model, said Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director. The company exported 12,225 units of two wheelers in the second quarter of this fiscal as against 7,288 units sold during the same period last year, registering a growth of 67.7 per cent.
