Mandapam panel begins probe

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUMALA, OCT. 25. The former TTD Executive Officer, P.V.R.K. Prasad, heading the three-member panel formed to study the mandapam row, on Monday said a comprehensive report would be submitted to the Government within the stipulated three months' period.

Talking to mediapersons, he said their focus would be to look into whether the dismantling of the 1,000-pillar mandapam was carried out within the guidelines laid down in the Agama Shastras or not. The TTD management's arguments and the objections raised by Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy would be given equal importance.

Contentions of both Agama advisers as well as pundits would also be heard, he said. The panel arrived here and inspected the dismantled site of the mandapam this evening.

Religious heads' advice

In reply to a question, he said the committee would meet Peethadhipathis, Mathadhipatis and Vaishnavite religious heads and seek advice. If the situation demanded the panel would hold meetings in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and other places to enable everyone to express opinions on the issue.

He said the panel would study implementation of the master plan and various developmental works in progress at the temple town. The increasing pilgrim rush and measures being adopted to meet their requirements would be given importance.
