WARANGAL, OCT. 25. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president and Minister for Rural Development, D. Srinivas, on Monday hinted that the Congress might go alone in the forthcoming local body elections. Interacting with mediapersons here, Mr. Srinivas said any tie-up with the TRS would depend on feelings of the party cadre. "Many MLAs had to lose their seats because of tie-up during Assembly elections and many workers had lost opportunities,'' he noted. However, he did not categorically rule out that there would be no tie-up. According to sources, Mr. Srinivas during a meeting with party workers is understood to have asked them to brace for the local body elections, particularly in strongholds of the TRS. He refused to comment on the remarks of the TRS leaders - K. Chandrasekhar Rao and A. Narendra - on the Telangana issue.
Stumbling block
Referring to the ongoing talks with naxalites, Mr. Srinivas said the issue of arms might come in the way of a positive outcome. "They are stubborn on arms. But, the Government has to negotiate and work within the framework of the Constitution,'' he said. The Minister hoped that naxalites would change their attitude on the arms issue during second phase of talks.
Ryots gherao Srinivas
