SANGAREDDY, OCT. 25. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti would seek the support of the BJP if the Congress-led UPA Government introduces a bill on statehood for Telangana in the winter session of Parliament, the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, A. Narendra, told reporters here today. Mr Narendra said that with the BJP's support, Telangana would become a reality by December. He saw no difficulty in the bill being passed without a hitch if introduced in the winter session. The TRS is planning to consult the BSP leader Mayawati as well as the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav to seek their support on the Telangana issue, Mr Narendra said.
Deadline December 25
Alleging that the Left parties were pressuring the Congress to deny statehood to Telangana, he said that efforts are being made to consolidate the non-Congress and non-communist parties to counter their efforts. The TRS president, K Chandrasekhar Rao, is already camping in Delhi and Mr Narendra will join him on Tuesday. According to Mr Narendra, the first meeting of such parties would take place in Delhi within a week. Mr Narendra said that the TRS would announce its action plan after December 25 and added that if the Congress fails to keep its promise on separate Telanagana, the TRS would be left with no other option but to launch an agitation, he warned.
Caution to Congress
Reacting to the comments of the APCC president D Srinivas that the Congress would review its relations with the TRS, Mr Narendra said that the TRS would not like to enter into a debate with State-level Congress leaders. "They (Congress) should remember that they have only 145 seats in the Lok Sabha and that the UPA Government is a combination of many parties. If the TRS comes out of the alliance then many more parties would follow suit," Mr Narendra said.
