Mulayam suspends senior officers

LUCKNOW, OCT. 25. The Uttar Pradesh government today suspended a District Magistrate, two Superintendents of Police and two Divisional Forest Officers besides initiating disciplinary action against a host of other senior civil and police officials for laxity and irregularities.

The Lakhmipur-Kheri DM has been suspended on charges of financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 16 crore in the distribution of wheat under the `Annapurna Scheme', Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav announced here.

The Superintendents of Police of Basti and Unnao hav been placed under suspension for their ``unsatisfactory performance'' on the law and order front, he told a press conference after presiding over a review meeting of Lucknow, Faizabad, Shravasti and Bareilly Divisions.

The Divisional Forest Officers of Baharaich and Balrampur have been placed under suspension on charges of committing financial irregularities, the Chief Minister said.

The Principal Secretary (Food and Civil Supplies) has been asked to explain irregularities in food grain distribution and the DMs of Gonda and Baharaich have been awarded adverse entry for laxity and slow pace of development works, he said.

Conservators of Forests of Shravasti, Balrampur and Sultanpur have been asked to explain the poor performance in tree plantation, Mr. Yadav said, adding the CFs of Shravasti and Balrampur have been awarded adverse entry.

The Chief Development Officers of Rae Bareli and Sitapur have been suspended on charges of financial irregularities.

The Zonal Chief Engineer of Lucknow has been suspended for laxity in preventing theft of power and his counterpart in Faizabad awarded adverse entry.

The government has also suspended the Additional Director (Medical and Health) for dereliction of duty, Mr. Yadav said. The Managing Directors of `Alpasankyak Vitta Vikas Nigam' and `Pichra Varg Vitt Vikas Nigam' awarded adverse entry.

The Inspectors General of Lucknow and Bareilly and the DIG of Faizabad have been asked to explain their poor performance on the law and order front, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister warned of stern action against officials who failed to discharge their duties and redress public grievances. --PTI
