By Our Correspondent

MAHABUBNAGAR, OCT. 25 . Government support would be extended to conduct free surgical camps for the physically challenged in the State, the Minister for Labour and District incharge Minister, G. Vinod, has said.

He inaugurated a week-long free surgical camp for the physically challenged at the S.V.S hospital near Mahabubnagar on Monday. The S.V.S hospital, the Balaji Institute for Rehabilitation to Disabled Persons (BIRDS) based in Tirupati and the Rogi Sahayaka Samsta organised the camp.

Speaking on the occasion, the District incharge Minister said incentives would be given to doctors who came forward to conduct free surgical camps for the physically challenged. He called upon the doctors' community to work for at least two years in tribal and remote villages in the State. He announced that special allowances and incentives would be provided to doctors who would served tribal people.

`Polio major cause'

He said proposals would be put forth for the organisation of free surgical camps for the physically challenged and called upon private and Government doctors as well as non-government organisations to organize more camps. He said polio was the major cause for disability. The State Government was taking preventive measures to eradicate polio completely, he said.

The Nagarkurnool MP, M. Jagannath, appealed for moral support for the physically challenged. The District Collector, M. Jagadeeshwar, said 64,000 disabled persons had been identified in the district and steps were being taken to provide assistance to them through various programmes.

He appreciated the S.V.S, BIRDS and other organisations.

Seven hundred and fifty physically challenged persons attended the camp; operations would be performed on 250 persons and the remaining would be conducted in a phased manner.
