Quarry worker killed in accident

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, OCT. 26. A 23-year-old worker was crushed to death by falling boulders at a quarry in Thalakkananchery near Pazhavanthangal on Monday.

Police said A. Stalin Thangadurai was driving a tractor and entered the quarry to collect rocks, when the boulders fell from a height of more than 50 feet, killing him on the spot.

Though no blasting was done, incessant rains in the past few days had loosened the soil around the boulders.

The Pazhavanthangal police have registered a case under Section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code for accidental death due to negligence and have arrested a man, Chockalingam, who was operating the quarry.

Found dead

A watchman at a college on Bharathidasan Road, Teynampet, was found hanging in one of the classrooms this morning.

Teynampet police identified the deceased as Balavaradhan, aged 52.
