MANGALORE, OCT. 27. The former Chief Minister, S. Bangarappa, will inaugurate a convention of Billava women here on October 31, according to Naveenachandra D. Suvarna, president of the All India Billava Union. He told presspersons here on Wednesday that there were over 200 Billava associations in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Nearly 50,000 persons from different parts of the country and abroad were expected to attend the convention. The meet would be held to create awareness among Billava women to unite, get educated and develop economically. The meet was aimed at boosting the self-confidence of Billava women to join the mainstream of society. It would also focus on the cultural aspects of Billava community.
Felicitated
Sheethal Mallar, a model, Jayamala, actress, and Muthamma, an expert in native medicine, would be felicitated. He said N. Dharam Singh, Chief Minister, would release a souvenir at a public meeting to be held in the evening that day. The Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, would distribute late Damodar R. Suvarna memorial scholarships to meritorious students. R.L. Jalappa, former Minister, B. Janardhana Poojary, president, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumar Bangarappa, former Minister, B.K. Hariprasad, MP, P. Basavaraj, president, Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corporation, and some cine actors and MLAs would participate in the convention to be held at the Nehru Maidan.
