Apex court bench

Sir, — The Supreme Court has rejected the Centre's suggestion to set up regional benches in the southern, western and north-eastern parts of the country on the ground that its unitary character will be affected. The setting up of regional benches is a long felt demand. Litigants want easy access to courts and a speedy disposal of long-pending cases. If necessary, the Government should amend the Constitution for setting up regional benches for the benefit of the people of remote areas.

P.V. Suresh Babu,
Chennai
