Letters to the Editor
Sir, The news that the Pakistan National Assembly has passed a bill to make honour killing punishable by death (Oct. 27) is welcome. Such killings are also common in our so-called secular and liberal society. Be it the dispute between Arif and Taufiq over Gudiya, the `gotra' dispute involving Rampal and Sonia of Jhajjar, Haryana, or the extreme instance of honour killing, a comprehensive law is imperative to rein in local or community courts. The decisions of these courts are guided by parochialism, caste equations and superstitions.
Neeraj Chaudhary,
