Shooting
HYDERABAD, OCT. 27. Amit Sanghi won the individual skeet event with much to spare in the first South Zone shot gun shooting championships at the SAAP Shooting Range in Central University here on Wednesday. Sanghi scored 136, five points ahead of his nearest rival Savya Sachi of Karnataka. For someone who took to shooting only an year go, Amit Sanghi showed remarkable composure when it mattered most to emerge champion. The bronze medallist in the last Nationals had an excellent percentage of shooting on Tuesday at 72 out of 75, but the Wednesday's forenoon session almost proved a disaster for him. While almost all other competitors hit the `saucer' repeatedly. His 19 points out of 25 during the day's second round brought him down to the second spot at 113, one point less than Savya Sachi. However, he regained his composure in the fifth shot and went on a winning trot with 20 consecutive hits. He won the first point and third but missed the third and fifth highs. G. Susheel of Karnataka and Raja Gopal tied at 128 and the former clinched the tie-break for the bronze. Despite his fine performance, host Andhra Pradesh had to settle for the silver medal at 313 in the team event, which was won by Karnataka with a tally of 333. Tamil Nadu was third at 242.
Team event: Karnataka (G Susheel, Raja Gopal, Savya Sachi) 333, Andhra Pradesh (Amit Sanghi, Darius Chenai, Gusti Noria) 313, Tamil Nadu (Jayesh Chand, Prithivi Raj, Raja Shekhar) 242.
