Gas leak in paper mill kills one
ADILABAD,
OCT. 27. A
n employee of Sirpur Paper Mills Private Limited died of asphyxiation and 24 persons were hospitalised following a leak in the chlorine cylinder pipe at the dyeing unit of the paper mill at Khagaznagar today.
Police sources said thatsome 15 workers were working at theunit when the chlorine cylinder, used for treating paper pulp, developed a leak and started discharging toxic gas. An employee, Nampally Rajamouli (52) inhaled the gas and died while undergoing treatment at the ESI Hospital. Other employees collapsed and they were shifted to the hospital. The sick employees were treated within three to four hours of the incident and their condition was stated to be safe. The mill management said there was no technical fault during production and that the mishap was caused by leakage of chlorine from the cylinders.
