A trip down memory lane
By Our Special Correspondent
ONGOLE,
OCT. 27.
The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who came to perform bhoomi pooja for the Velugonda project, near Markapur on Wednesday, went down memory lane and inquired about the saplings he had planted as the opposition leader at the spot two years ago. He was happy to note that two of the six plants had survived.
He used the occasion to vindicate the sincerity of the Congress Government vis-a-vis the TDP Government in execution of irrigation projects. Dr. Reddy said the TDP chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu, had laid the foundation stone for Velugonda project in March 1996 on the eve of the Lok Sabha election to garner votes. Mr. Naidu accorded administrative sanction for the Rs. 135-crore Velugonda project on the eve of Assembly election in 1999. He forgot about the project after he became Chief Minister again.
