Fleming hits double century

CHITTAGONG, OCT. 27. New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming smashed a superb double century on Wednesday as Bangladesh faltered in its chase of a massive first innings total in the second Test.

Fleming declared the first innings on 545 for six as unbeaten batsmen Jacob Oram (38) and Brendon McCullum (17) left the field at tea.

Bangladesh struggled to 82 for three at stumps on the second day, still trailing by 463 runs in the first innings.

Left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori snared two wickets, while fellow spinner Paul Wiseman claimed the third in the incomplete last over of the day.

Vettori had opener Nafis Iqbal (13) caught at slip by a diving Scott Styris before trapping rookie Aftab Ahmed lbw for 20. Wiseman removed Rajin Saleh for two off 39 balls.

Opener Javed Omar was unbeaten at close of play on 45 off 85 balls, five of them dispatched to boundaries.

Fleming hammered 202 off 318 balls in 444 minutes at the M.A. Aziz Stadium before being caught by extra-cover fielder Mushfiqur Rahman off part-time slow bowler Rajin Saleh. He stroked 21 boundaries and one 6.

His dismissal in the second session came just after he reached the milestone with a cover drive to the boundary off medium-pacer Rahman. — AP
