Sixes go for a six

SYDNEY, OCT. 27. A local council in Melbourne has announced punitive action against cricket players hitting sixes following expressions of concern over public safety.

According to the Herald Sun, the Boroondara Council has said that amateur cricketers at two eastern Melbourne suburban grounds — Canterbury Sports Ground and the Dorothy Laver Reserve East — will be penalised for hitting a 6 from now on under a new rule passed by it.

Over 100 Eastern Cricket Association teams have adopted the rule following frequent complaints of cricket balls hitting bystanders. The threat of legal action being considered has prompted the change.

To make matter worse, cricketers will neither receive any runs nor will the ball be re-bowled. — ANI
