Free tests at Health Mela

NEW DELHI OCT. 27. Free blood tests and check-ups by specialists are the major attractions of the ten-day MTNL Perfect Health Mela which will be held at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here from October 29. The test profile will include all parameters of hemogram, lipid profile, liver and kidney test and blood sugar that will be done with the help of most modern equipments. The market cost of this test varies from Rs 1,100 to 1,500, but here only a nominal amount of Rs. 100 will be charged as registration fee.

The Mela is being organised by The Heart Care Foundation of India and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in association with other sponsors. The Department of Handicraft of the Union Ministry of Textiles will also be setting up a craft bazaar for the first time here.

At a press conference here today, the Delhi Education Minister, Arvinder Singh Lovely, urged school and educational institutions to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Global surgeons' meet

NEW DELHI OCT. 27. The Capital will be hosting the 50th Annual Conference of the International College of Surgeons (ICS) at the India Habitat Centre here from October 28 to 31. The objective of the convention is to provide an opportunity to the participating surgeons to interact and exchange information.

The International College of Surgeons is a global organisation dedicated to bringing together surgeons from across the world to promote surgical excellence and improving the quality of medical care in developing countries. The Executive Director of Escorts Hospital and Research Centre, N.K. Pandey : "The conference will help bring focus on rapidly evolving health care facilities in the country."

Dividend cheque presented

NEW DELHI OCT. 27. The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Limited has declared a dividend of Rs. 31.41 lakhs for the financial year 2003-04. The Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, Ramesh Negi, handed over the cheque to the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, B.L. Joshi, here on Tuesday.

Delhi Tourism was set up in 1975 and in recent years it has made considerable growth. The company has made a profit of Rs. 438.71 lakhs.

Directive on stray cattle issue

New Delhi Oct. 27. The Delhi High Court today directed the MCD to prepare an area-wise list of officers responsible to implement its order to remove stray cattle from the Capital.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice B.C. Patel and Justice B.D. Ahmed asked the MCD to come out with the list along with a time-bound scheme. The court is seized of a PIL on stray cattle menace filed by Common Cause, an NGO.

The Bench, which had disposed of the PIL, took suo motu cognisance of a newspaper report that an MCD official was thrashed by the stray cattle owners while on his job to implement court order. MCD official D.K. Singh was reportedly badly beaten up while catching stray cattle and the court had taken Delhi police to task for its lackadaisical approach to the problem.

MCD had been complaining about alleged police connivance with illegal dairy owners who leave their cows on roads and resist the civic body's drive against such cattle.

Amity Utsav organised

NEW DELHI OCT. 27. A two-day event titled "Amity Utsav-2004" was organised by the Amity International School in Noida to celebrate the birthday of the founder President of the Ritnand Baldev Educational Foundation, Ashok K. Chauhan. The Secretary of Cultural Affairs of the United States Embassy, Robin D. Diallo, and the School Principal, Mohina Dar, inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp on Tuesday. Ms Robin released a souvenir on the occasion and appreciated different academic and co-curricular avenues made available to the students.
