Cash prizes for policemen

CHENNAI, OCT. 27. The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, today gave away prizes totalling Rs. 8.75 lakhs to 17 policemen and two trainers who won in sports events held in different parts of the country recently.

The Tamil Nadu police team won the gold and silver medals in boat races held in Rourkee in Uttaranchal between October 16 and 19, finished second in kabbadi at the national police meet conducted in Jammu from September 23 to 28 and finished third in pole vault at the athletic meet held in Mumbai from September 10 to 12. Those who won gold medals were given Rs. 50,000, the silver medallists got Rs. 30,000 and the bronze medallists Rs. 20,000. While the athletic coach was given Rs. 25,000, the basketball coach received Rs. 30,000.
