NHRC seeks report on students' electrocution
By Our Legal Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
OCT. 28.
The electrocution of two school students in Srinagar, reported in the media on October 19, has prompted the National Human Rights Commission to call for a report from the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary.
According to the report, two students were killed and six critically injured when a live wire fell on the roof of their school at Shariefabad near Zainakote. Some students taking the final term examination at the time rushed out.
In the melee, Tanvir Ahmad, a kindergarten student, and Mohammad Maqbool of third standard came in contact with the live wire and were electrocuted. Residents of the area staged violent protests against the Power Department.
Expressing concern over the incident, the Commission sought the State's response within four weeks.
