Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to Pervez Musharraf's new Kashmir formula. The Pakistan President has a penchant for conducting diplomacy through the media as he did in Agra in 2001. He has to realise that under no circumstance will India concede any territory to a country that lost one half of its population within 25 years of independence. Any such territorial adjustment will be seen as an appeasement of terrorism, a dangerous precedent that will only destabilise the region.
Subramanyam Sridharan,
* * * Sir, Gen. Musharraf's proposal of identifying disputed regions, demilitarising them and changing their status should not be dismissed as baseless. India should react positively to the proposal. We should forget our bitter past. Rather than becoming emotional, we should view the issue practically.
Shadaan Alam,
