CUDDAPAH, OCT. 28. The Rajampet MP, A. Sai Prathap, Rajampet MLA, K. Prabhavathamma and the District Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, disbursed cheques worth Rs. 12.97 crores to 383 persons, displaced by Somasila project, in Kommuru Arundhatiwada in Nandalur mandal on Thursday. The Arundhatiwada residents reciprocated by handing over a cheque for Rs. 50,000 towards free power supply scheme to the MLA. The compensation was paid after a wait of 14 years by the displaced persons, the MP said at Kommuru.
Rehabilitation promise
The Government was determined to complete all major irrigation projects within five years and medium irrigation projects in three years, he said. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy would lay the foundation stone for Jharikona project at Rayachoti in three months, Mr. Sai Prathap assured. He also said residents of villages, likely to be submerged by the Somasila project, would be rehabilitated. Prabhavathamma sought speedy payment of compensation to other villages too.
Land for houses
The District Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, said compensation was paid to 10 submersible villages so far, out of 23 villages. Of the 822 eligible beneficiaries in Kommuru Arundhatiwada, 383 were given compensation today. Lands were identified at Adapur in Nandalur mandal and in Rajampet and Badvel mandals for building pucca houses for the displaced. The Special Collector of Telugu Ganga project, P. Venkateswarlu, said compensation of Rs. 23 crores had been disbursed so far.
