Five youth hostels to come up in State

KARIMNAGAR, OCT. 29. The State Government would construct five new youth hostels with the Central Government's assistance in Karimnagar, Siddipet, Cuddapah, Rajahmundry and Vizianagaram soon, said the Minister for Youth Services, T. Harish Rao here today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said each hostel would be built at a cost of Rs. 10 crores. Unemployed youths, who visit towns to attend competitive examinations, interviews and other career-related works, would be provided accommodation at the rate of Rs. 10 per day and meals at a subsidised rate of Rs. 10. The hostel would also impart training programmes to the youth on career opportunities and organise counselling programmes.

Site for hostel

He said he had held a meeting with the Karimnagar district Collector, C. Parthasarathi for the allocation of site for the youth hostel. Funds would be released immediately after the proposals were submitted, he added. In the State, Hyderabad, Warangal, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam have youth hostels.

Regarding youth empowerment programmes, he said the Rajiv yuvashakthi programme would be launched in the State on November 19. The Government had allocated Rs. 150 crore for the programme, which would benefit about 50,000 unemployed youth. According to the scheme, financial assistance ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 3 lakh would be given to individuals and groups ranging from two to five members.

Vending machine plans

Responding to some companies coming forward to lend coffee, tea and fruit juices vending machines to unemployed youth, he said a GO was issued instructing all Government offices to allocate sites for installation of these vending machines. He said about 10,000 vending machines would be opened all over the State in government offices.
