Naxals' attitude unhelpful: Minister
By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA,
OCT. 29.
The actions of naxalites after the first round of talks may become an obstacle for commencement of the second round, according to the Minister for Municipal Administration and member of the negotiations committee, Koneru Ranga Rao.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Ranga Rao said there was no hitch whatsoever in the first round of talks with the naxalites, but there seemed to be change in their attitude after that. The Congress Government wanted talks with the naxalites to put an end to the killings, but the distribution of forest and endowment lands and the carrying of weapons were against the spirit of the talks.
Even the State Government lacked the authority to distribute forest lands, which were under the purview of the Central Government. The State Government was morally obliged to protect endowment lands.
He said that the Government was on the verge of entering into an agreement with the World Bank for assistance of Rs 1,380 crores for developing civic infrastructure. He said that the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy, would lay the foundation stone for the Right Canal of the Polavaram Project on November 8.
