By Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW, OCT. 29. The former Soviet President, Mikhail Gorbachev, said he was happy with the path of development followed by India.

India has chosen the right course unlike some other countries, Mr. Gorbachev was quoted as telling India's Ambassador, Kanwal Sibal. The envoy called on the last Soviet leader on Thursday.

Mr. Gorbachev said his attitude to India, which was always very friendly, had become even more positive and respectful now. He "has full confidence in the great future of India and its great people," said a press release issued by the Indian Embassy today. The Indian media was not invited to the meeting.

The last leader of the Soviet Union said he had always favoured a strong and dynamically growing India. He described India as Russia's strong strategic partner.
