JAMMU, OCT. 30. The Army has said it will conduct an inquiry into the rape of a woman in the Kashmir Valley by a gang that allegedly included two Army personnel. It was alleged that a 20-year-old woman was gangraped by six persons on the intervening night of October 27 and 28 in the high security zone of Raj Bagh area in Srinagar. All the six have been arrested and medical examination of the victim has confirmed the rape. As per the First Information Report, the woman was returning to Srinagar from Jammu when two State Government officials allegedly took her to their guest house and kept her in wrongful confinement. She alleged that later six persons, including the two Army personnel, overpowered her and raped her. Today the spokesperson for the 16 Corps here issued a press note denouncing the gangrape as a ``criminal act of the horrendous nature.'' ``The Army will conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident and the severest punishment will be meted out to the individuals if found to be guilty.''
