KOCHI, OCT 30. The Vytilla-Vytilla circular bus services kept off the road today in protest against the attack on K.B. Joshy, a private bus conductor, on Thursday night. A press release issued by the Private Bus Thozhilali Federation (AITUC) said Mr. Joshy had been attacked by "anti-social elements" near the Ernakulam Medical Centre. Workers of 41 private buses that ply the route joined the strike, called by different trade unions. Buses that operate services to Edapally and Ernakulam through the National Highway bypass at Vytilla did not join the strike. The general secretary of the association, Joy Joseph, and the president of the Kochi City Motor Thozhilali Union, T.S. Shanmukhadas, demanded the arrest of the persons involved in the attack on the conductor. The striking workers took out a protest march and held a public meeting at Vytilla today. Mr. Joy Joseph inaugurated the public meeting.
