Mumbai beats Vadodara

VADODARA, OCT. 30. An unbeaten knock of 56 in 71 balls by Parag Madkaikar and his 80-run unbroken sixth-wicket stand with Harwinder Singh (30) guided Mumbai to an emphatic 5-wicket victory over host Vadodara in their opening West Zone Vinoo Mankad under-19 one-day cricket match played at the Motibaug ground here on Friday.

Having dismissed the host for a paltry 167 in 47.2 overs, Mumbai scored 169 for five with 5.5 overs to spare.

Though Mumbai, chasing a target of 168 runs, lost three quick wickets with only 39 runs on the board, Parag played sensibly to steer the side to a comfortable victory with the able support of Prashant Naik (21) and Harwinder (not out 30).

For Vadodara, medium pacer Abhimanyu Chauhan was the most successful with in three for 27.

Earlier, electing to bat first, Vadodara piled up 167 runs with Utkarsh Patel (40) and skipper Jay Naikwadi (39) contributing the most, as others failed to withstand the Mumbai pace attack spearheaded by Rakesh Kanojia (two for 14).

Brief scores: Vadodara 167 in 47.2 overs lost to Mumbai 169 for five in 44.1 overs. — UNI
