COIMBATORE, OCT. 30 . The Collector, S. Kosalaraman, today inspected the work on the total sanitation project at the Adi-Dravidar colony in No 10 Muthur Panchayat under the Kinathukkadavu Panchayat Union. He inspected the construction work of over 200 toilets being constructed at a cost of Rs. 2,500 each. Recalling the success of the total sanitation project in a number of villages in the district, Mr. Kosalaraman said that it was for the people to ensure that their surroundings were clean. The Collector also reviewed the work to install biogas plants for ten houses on an experimental basis. He also reviewed the work on the group houses in the village and directed the officials concerned to make the houses ready for occupation within a month. The official team comprising the project officer of the District Rural Development Agency, P. Jeyabalakrishnan, and block development officials reviewed the construction work of percolation ponds and buildings for the women self-help groups.
House sites
Mr. Kosalaraman also inspected the house sites given to the Adi-Dravida community at Malumichampatti on the outskirts of Coimbatore. Forty-seven acres were set aside to give house site pattas to 1,515 members of the community. He also instructed the South Tahsildar, S. Gopal, and local body officials to ensure availability of basic infrastructure in the colony. The official team included the District Adi-Dravidar Welfare Officer, Haridoss, and the Tahsildar, Prakadasm.
Construction works
Mr. Kosalaraman also reviewed the construction of fire-resistant houses at Andikadu near Chettipalayam. The project is coming under the aegis of the Slum Clearance Board. The Collector also assured to look into the demands of the residents for extending the last bus service up to Andikadu, currently running up to Chettipalayam.
