MANGALORE, OCT. 30. Various advertisement agencies that have their hoardings in the city owe the city corporation Rs. 33.76 lakhs in advertisement tax. This came to light at the meeting of city corporation council here today. Raising the subject, Mohammed Nawaz, corporator, said an agency owed Rs. 15.37 lakhs, while others owed between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 6.38 lakhs. Mr. Nawaz said that of the total dues, Rs. 16.07 lakhs pertained to 2003-04. An official concerned said that the corporation was taking measures to collect the advertisement tax. It would be completed by November. Kamalaksha Kunder, corporator, said that a building near Urva Stores under ward number 26 has been converted into a cow shelter. This was in a residential area and wanted to know if the corporation had permitted the same. The Mayor, Purandaradasa Kulur, said the corporation had not given permission.
