MADURAI, OCT. 30. The Muthuramalinga Thevar jayanthi was observed with fervour in Madurai district. Several leaders and followers paid homage to the leader by garlanding his statue here amidst a tight security. Thousands of Thevar followers came in a procession and paid homage. The Public Works Department Minister, O. Panneerselvam, the Transport Minister, R. Viswanathan, the Industries Minister, Nainar Nagendran, the Forest and Environment Minister, R. Vaithalingam, the Fisheries Minister, M. Radhakrishnan, the Collector, D. Raajendiran, and the District Revenue Officer, K. Asaithambi, garlanded the statue. The leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Venkaiah Naidu, Thirunavakarasar, and C. P. Radhakrishnan, the MP, P. Mohan, the MLA, N. Nanmaran, and the district secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), R. Jyotiram, A.G.S. Rambabu of the Congress, the general secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Vaiko, the Mayor, S. Ramachandran (DMK), secretary of the All-India Forward Bloc (AIFB), L. Santhanam, the West Bengal Minister for Food, Narain Dev, Kadiravan of the AIFB (Vallarasu group), and John Moses of the Janata Dal were among those who garlanded the statue.
