Rain forecast

Forecast: A spell of rain or thundershowers.

Waltair, the maximum temperature was 27.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 22.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 88 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. 78 per cent. Rainfall at 8.30 a.m. was 2.8 mm and at 8.30 p.m. 0.2 mm.

At Airport, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 27.4 degrees Celsius and 23.3 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 90 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. 80 per cent. Rainfall at 8.30 a.m. was 11.0 mm and at 8.30 p.m. 0.2 mm.

The maximum and minimum temperatures at Dolphin's Nose were 26.2 degrees Celsius and 19.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 93 per cent. Rainfall at 8.30 a.m. was 9.2 mm.

Closing hour extended

The Deputy Commissioner of Labour, M.N.V. Varahala Reddy, on Saturday issued an order permitting shops and establishments in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts to extend their closing hours in connection with Ramzan and Deepavali. The exemption is granted from Saturday to November 15 (excluding November 1). The permission had been sanctioned subject to fulfilment of conditions as per the AP Shops and Establishment Act of 1988.

Dial 186 for ISD

International subscriber dialling (ISD) calls will have to be booked on 186 with effect from the intervening midnight of Sunday and Monday (November 1). According to the General Manager of Visakhapatnam Telecom District, this has been done to streamline ISD call booking, which is being diverted to Vijayawada. Similarly, trunk enquiry (181) is being shifted to the Vijayawada Trunk Exchange. However, the ISD and trunk booking charges remain unchanged.

Melodies contest

Visakha Film Society will conduct light musical vocal competitions in Telugu cine melodies at Sunflower Silver Jubilee Convent in MVP Colony on Monday, to mark the Andhra Pradesh State Formation Day. Participants will be divided into two age groups: below 12 years and 13-16 years. Further details can be had from the society secretary, Thota Thirupathi Rao (cell: 98484-28477) or M.N. At the recent general body meeting of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust and Dock Labour Board SC/ST Officers' Welfare Association, the following office-bearers were unanimously elected: P. Sekhar Babu, president; K. Surya Prakasa Rao, G. Eswara Rao and B. Venkata Swamy, vice-presidents; G. Ramsekhar Yaaji, general secretary; M.V. Ravi Kumar, G.R.V. Prasada Rao and Ch.
