KOCHI, OCT. 30 . Federal Bank's profit for the first six months of the current financial year stood at Rs. 48 crores compared to Rs. 78 crores during the same period in 2003-2004. The Half-I result of the bank was adopted by its Board of Directors at its meeting held on Saturday. A press release from the bank said that during the period it had made "significant progress on the NPA front." The gross NPA of the Bank was reduced to Rs. 600 crores from Rs. 625 crores half-year-to-half year and the net NPA had fallen to Rs. 181 crores from Rs. 300 crores. Gross NPA stood at 6.99 per cent and net NPA at 2.22 per cent.
Capital adequacy
The press release said the bank's capital adequacy now stood at 11.72 per cent against the RBI's stipulated level of 9 per cent. The total deposits of the bank was Rs. 12,840 crores, marking a growth of 10.94 per cent. Total advances touched Rs. 8,172 crores, registering growth of 21.9 per cent compared to September 2003. The bank has shown significant increase in the SB, Current A/c and housing loan portfolios. The increase in these categories between September 2003 and 2004 is 37.5, 24.5 and 64 per cent respectively. Federal Bank has 250 ATMs and 50 more are lined up during the current financial year. The bank plans to collect telephone/mobile phone bills of BSNL through an interactive voice response system, which will start functioning from November. The Bank has 444 branches all over the country and plans to open branches at Thiruvankulam, Vadakkancherry, Dehradun, Kollam/Palayamthode, Bangalore/Marathalli, Chennai/Purasavakkam, Kannur/South Bazaar, Kohlapur, Aurangabad, New Delhi/Preet Vihar.
