BANGALORE, OCT. 31. Elections to the posts of presidents of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat and its units in various districts were held today. Though there were 14 candidates in the fray for the post of president of the parishat, the contest was said to be between the 66-year-old writer and former Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority Chandrashekhara Patil and the 57-year-old writer R.K. Prasad (Nallor Prasad). Ni. Giri Gowda, Harihara Priya, Ajjampura G. Suri, B. Narayanamma, and Lakshamana Rao Gogi were among those in the fray. The election officer, Nagaraju, told The Hindu that polling was peaceful in all districts. Mysore, Mandya, Hassan and Dharwad districts registered 70 per cent polling.
Dull
In Bangalore, polling was dull and the percentage was only 23. Of the 40,000 votes across the State, 7,000 were in Bangalore, he said.
