HASSAN, OCT. 31. H.B. Ramesh, a yoga teacher and writer, has been elected as the president of the district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. In the elections to the post of president of the parishat here on Sunday, he defeated his nearest rival, Udayaravi, by a margin of 169 votes. Mr. Ramesh was able to secure 385 votes, while Mr. Udayaravi secured only 218 votes. Of the 939 eligible voters in the district, 655 exercised their franchise. The election officer, Venkatesh, declared two votes as invalid. Our Chitradurga Staff Correspondent reports: K.M. Veeresh, has been elected president of the district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat. Mr. Veeresh is the secretary to the Bapuji Education Society, Chitradurga. According to sources, Mr. Veeresh defeated his rival, S. Manjunath, who is also the outgoing president, by 57 votes. Of the 572 voters in the district, 413 persons exercised their franchise. While Mr. Veeresh managed to secur 234 votes, Mr. Manjunath was able to get only 175 votes. Sources said that the officials declared four votes as invalid.
