MANGALORE, OCT. 31. B.M. Idinabba, chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, has said that people should remember and appreciate the sacrifice made by thousands of freedom fighters and dedicate their lives for the development of the nation. He also said that people should work to preserve the hard earned freedom of the country. He was speaking at the inauguration of the National Rededication Day function that was organised to observe the 20th death anniversary of the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, here on Sunday. Mr. Idinabba said that India won its freedom because of the three simple tenets of truth, non-violence, and justice. He also spoke about the achievements of Mrs. Gandhi, especially her role in advocating the need for land reforms and its subsequent implementation in Karnataka by the Devaraj Urs Government. Making a specific reference to the 20-point and 15-point programme introduced by Mrs. Gandhi, he said they helped shape the lives of socially and economically deprived sections of society. Yogish Bhat, MLA, said that people should reaffirm their determination to create a fearless and equitable society. He said that the lives of leaders, including that of Mrs. Gandhi, should be an inspiration for the future generations. The Chief Whip of the ruling coalition, K. Abhayachandra Jain, presided over the function. The Deputy Commissioner, Arvind Shrivastava, welcomed the gathering. The President of Dakshina Kannada unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, proposed a vote of thanks. The Principal of S.D.M. Law College, B.K. Ravindra; Suratkal MLA, J. Krishna Palemar; and the Superintendent of Police, Soumendhu Mukherjee, were present. Students representing Bharath Seva Dal, National Cadet Corps, and Scouts and Guides, participated in the procession that was taken out from the Government Junior College for Women at Balmatta to S.D.M. Law College, Kodialbail. Sheela Diwakar and her students presented a programme of patriotic songs.
