NEW DELHI, OCT. 31. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will lay the foundation stone of Sri Venkateswara College's hostel -- two separate blocks for girls and boys -- and a research wing with a tutorial block on November 2 in the college premises here. Mr. Reddy will also address the students and faculty of the college on the occasion. Announcing this at a press conference on Saturday, the Sri Venkateswara College's principal, A. Sankara Reddy, said the Rs.65 lakh project will have two blocks each having 50 rooms that will provide accommodation to 100 students, both girls and boys. In between the two blocks there will be another with a provision for kitchen and recreation facilities. Expressing satisfaction over the University Grants Commission's decision to include Sri Venkateswara College as a "centre for excellence", Mr. Reddy said: "Ours and Gargi College are the only two colleges in Delhi University which have been chosen by the UGC on the basis of our academic excellence and infrastructure facilities. We will be utilising the UGC's grant of Rs.35 lakhs for our lecture hall." Former Sri Venkateswara College's students whose names Dr. Reddy mentioned for doing the college proud included Deepa Raghavan, a topper in B.Sc. (Honours) Biochemistry in Delhi University who was nominated to the Sahitya Kala Parishad for Young Artist; Iqbal Singh Dhaliwal, an IAS topper in 1996; and Shilpi Singh, who was conferred the Arjuna Award for her outstanding performance in shooting in 1998.
