NEW DELHI, OCT. 31. A 21-year-old woman and her 19-year-old brother have been arrested by the North-West Delhi police for allegedly killing their mother at Bawana in North-West Delhi on October 23. The deceased was mentally unstable and the accused were apparently fed-up with her irritating behaviour. According to the police, the body of an elderly woman was found in the jungles of Barwala village at Bawana in North-West Delhi on October 24 around 8 a.m. There were ligature marks on the neck of the deceased. After persistent efforts, the police managed to identify the body as that of Manju Narain, wife of Kamkhey Narain, a resident of Begumpur Extension in Bawana. Investigations revealed that Kamkhey, who worked as a salesman in a tobacco manufacturing company, and Manju had three sons and two daughters. Their two elder sons, Mukesh Narain and Jai Narain, ran a tea stall on the roadside in Pooth Kalan village. Kamkhey used to visit the house only on the weekend, while his two sons slept at the stall. Mukesh used to visit the house in the evening to fetch the dinner cooked by Rajni Narain, his sister. Rajni was unmarried and had dropped out of school early on. After a detailed inspection of the scene of crime and evidence picked up from Manju's house, the police concluded that Manju was killed in home and her body later dumped in the jungle. They also found several contradictions in the sequence of events narrated by Mukesh and Rajni. They were interrogated at length following which they allegedly confessed to having killed their mother. As per their statements, Mukesh came to the house and asked Rajni to give his meal around 8 p.m. on October 23. She asked him to wait as she still cooking it. But Rajni's mother got angry and scolded her for failing to make the meal on time. Rajni too retorted strongly and a squabble ensued between the mother and daughter. Manju's irritating behaviour due to her weak mental state often led to such altercations in the family. Mostly, it was Rajni who bore all the brunt as she used to remain in the house and handle all the household chores. Mukesh felt bad about this and had sympathy for his sister. Meanwhile, as the altercation gave way to a physical tussle, Mukesh got angry and in a fit of rage decided to kill his mother. He pulled out a rope, used to hang curtains, and tightened a noose around his mother's neck. Rajni, who had her hair being pulled by her mother, freed herself and pinned down her mother as Mukesh tightened the noose further. Soon Manju died. Mukesh then wrapped his mother's body in a blanket and put it on the carrier of his bicycle. He then tied the body to himself and covered it with another blanket in such a way that it looked as if a pillion rider was going. After reaching the jungles near Barwala village, he dumped the body under cover of darkness.
