THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 1. Sukumar Azhikode, writer and orator, has won this year's Ezhuthachan Puraskaram the highest literary award instituted by the State Government. The Minister for Culture, A.P. Anil Kumar, said Prof. Azhikode was chosen for the award in recognition of his contributions as writer and critic. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, citation and a statuette. The Minister said Prof. Azhikode had made significant contributions as literary critic, writer, philosopher, orator, teacher and journalist. His career as critic and orator spanned 60 years and 50 years respectively. The past recipients of the award include Sooranad Kunjan Pillai, Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, Balamaniamma, K.M. George, Ponkunnam Varkey and M.P. Appan.
