HYDERABAD, NOV. 1. The BJP on Monday charged the State police with failing to cooperate with their Gujarat counterparts regarding the arrest of Moulana Naseeruddin. The party held the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, responsible for the incidents leading to firing near the DGP's office. Addressing a press conference, the BJP floor leader in the Assembly, G. Kishan Reddy, said the peaceful atmosphere in the city became vitiated after the Congress came to power and accused the State Government of according a red carpet welcome to extremists and criminals. He alleged that the State police had failed to act and cooperate with their Gujarat counterparts on Sunday night fearing that the Government might hold an enquiry later. He said the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, had ordered an enquiry into the arrests carried out by the city police in the wake of the storming of the Police Commissioner's office by DJS activists some months ago. Had the police cooperated, the incidents leading to the firing in which one person was killed could have been averted.
Ban sought
He alleged that the MIM, DJS and Tehreek Tehfooz Shariyat-e-Islam were trying to whip up communal passions with a view to increasing their influence among Muslims. He sought a ban on the DJS and the TTSI and arrest of their leaders for making provocative statements.
