Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, NOV. 1. The sky will be partly cloudy on Tuesday, with the possibility of shower or thundershower in some areas. On Monday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.3 degrees Celsius. Meenambakkam recorded a maximum of 30.2 and a minimum of 22.8 degrees Celsius. Nungambakkam received 0.5 mm of rainfall in the 12 hours ended 8.30 p.m. on Monday. Humidity was 90 and 88 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the Egmore, Anna Salai, Nanganallur, Gummidipoondi, Sowcarpet, Tondiarpet and Alwarpet areas.

Observed

The Women's Voluntary Service of Tamilnadu observed Indira Gandhi Martyrdom Day with various programmes.

Susila Mariyappan, Director, Students Advisory Board, University of Madras, gave away prizes to winners of oratorical competition for school children. Food packets were distributed to children and women. Mano Bakthavatsalam, honorary secretary and Mahalakshmi, treasurer, spoke.

Eye camp

Singhvi Charitable Trust conducted a free eye and dental camp at Vadakaral, Red Hills.

About 340 persons were screened and 108 given medicines for eye-related problems. Another 191 persons were given spectacles while 105 persons screened for dental problems.
